Year 2008/2009 sports insurance program
Sports Medicine Australia has chosen the following cover with OAMPS Insurance Brokers:
- Tragedy cover up to $70,000
- Legal liability up to $10 million
- Errors and omissions up to $5 million
- Medical cover up to $1,500
- Loss of income benefits up to $300 per week up to 52 weeks
Medicare pays all eligible costs. Sports Medicine Australia's policy then covers such expenses as private hospital accommodation, ambulance, physiotherapy and dental fees up to $2,500 in total for each medical claim.
The level of cover under the program is not 'comprehensive' and, as such, we encourage all participants to review their own individual needs. Where appropriate, we advise participants to take out private health, life and income protection insurance. It is an individual’s responsibility to ensure that he/she has adequate insurance cover for his/her needs.
This policy is only available to SMA Accredited Sports Trainers practicing in Australia and New Zealand.
The Policy operates while a sports trainer is working in activities involving:
- Club, representative, state or national matches
- Training routines arranged by the club, league, association or federation
- Travelling directly to or from the above activities and residence of place of employment or club premise
- Staying away from home during a tour for the purpose of participating in representative matches
- An administrative capacity or organised social and fundraising activities
Please note: It is the policy holder's responsibility to ensure their SMA Sports Trainer Accreditation is current. The insurance policy is only valid whilst the policy holder's SMA Sports Trainer accreditation is current. The policy is void at any period during which the policy holder's SMA Sports Trainer Accreditation lapses.
Coverage detail:
Medical
80% of non-Medicare expenses up to $1,500. Government legislative and legal conditions prevent your insurer from paying Medicare gaps. Under the policy you can claim physiotherapy, private hospital accommodation, ambulance and dental fees. There is an excess of $50 if no private health cover.
Legal liability
Limit of indemnity is $10,000,000. Provides protection for first aid officials against claims alleging breach of duty of care. Excess nil.
Errors and omissions
Limit of indemnity $5,000,000 - cover applies to coaches, umpires, officials, administrators and team managers.
Loss of income
If you're a wage earner, temporary total disablement of $300 per week is payable up to a maximum of 52 weeks. Excess is 7 days.
Student assistance/Home help benefits
Pays up to $300 per week is payable up to a maximum of 52 weeks for costs incurred for tutoring or continuation of education and home duties.
Parents' allowance
Pays $25 for each day the insured child is hospitalised; offsetting costs incurred for babysitters, taxi fares and so on. Maximum benefit is $1,500.
